EXPLANATION OF NUMERICAL CODE:
| 01 | School Code | In this case corresponding to the Faculty of Arts and Science (FAS) |
| 220 | Department/Program Code | In this case corresponding to the Economics Department |
| 103 | Course Number | |
| 01 | Section Number | Note: In the case of a lecture the section number is 00, only because the lecture is comprised of all sections |
| 40381 | Index Number | Note: In the case of a lecture the index number is 99999, only because the lecture is not assigned a specific index number |
| ENROLL= | Enrollment | This is the enrollment for the course at the end of the drop-add period, and is provided to the Center for Teaching Advancement and Assessment Research by OIT-ESS (Office of Information Technology - Enterprise Services and Systems) |
| RESP= | Responses | This is the total number of forms properly completed by the students on the day the evaluation was conducted. These forms were scanned and processed by the CTAAR. |

INTERPRETATION OF RESPONSE DATA:
FREQUENCY OF RESPONSE
For each of the university wide
questions the student responds on a scale from 1 to 5. (1=strongly
disagree; 5=strongly agree).
The five
columns immediately to the right of each question
shows the frequency of response for each choice.
With regards to the above example: 0 students responded with strongly disagree by marking a (1)
1 student responded by marking a (2)
1 students responded with neutral by marking a (3)
5 students responded by marking a (4)
19 students responded with strongly agree by marking a (5)
# OF NO RESPONSES
This shows the number of forms
scanned on which there was no response for the corresponding question.
Note: For paper surveys, the number of no responses also takes into account the
number of responses which were made in a way the scanner could
not read. For example, questions responded to in an inappropriate
color ink will be factored into this value.
EXPLANATION OF MEANS
MEAN OF SECTION
This shows the weighted average
score for the instructor of the section, on a scale from 1 to 5,
for each question. Just as a student's grade point average represents
the student's average grade points per credit hour, the mean of section
represents the instructor's average response per student in the section.
In the above example Professor Gigliotti received a 4.62 out of 5 for question
number 1.
MEAN OF COURSE
This statistic shows the average
score on the corresponding question, for all
section of the course combined. (all sections
scanned and contributing to this statistic have the same codes except for
the section and index numbers) If there is only one section of course, the mean of section and mean of course will always be the same. The mean of the course in this case
is 4.62.
MEAN OF DEPARTMENT
This statistic shows the average
score on the question for all courses scanned
within the same department and school code
as the course currently being reviewed. In this case the mean of
the Economics Department is 4.33.
MEAN OF XXX LEVEL
This statistic shows the mean score
for all courses at the same level
as the course currently being reviewed within the same school and department.
Professor Gigliotti's course was a 100 level introductory course.
The mean for all 100 level course in the Economics Department is 4.29.
Note that the rating form currently being used as an example and any other form is instructor specific and reflects student response in regards to that instructor only.
The first ten question of the Student Instructional Rating Form ar standardized for all departments. Questions 11 through 19 are reserved for use by the individual instructor, or by a department. For example, the english department adds questions in the spaces marked 11 through 14, 16 and 17. The physics department has five different version of the form, one for each type of course the department offers.
